San Lorenzo

Tuesday 7th May 2024, 15:00

This visit is devoted to the church of San Lorenzo, one of the oldest churches in Florence, dating back to 393 CE. Rebuilt several times over the centuries, it was ultimately redesigned by Filippo Brunelleschi who created for Cosimo de’Medici one of the first true Renaissance churches. During this visit we will explore Brunelleschi’s revolutionary architecture at San Lorenzo, by closely examining the individual structural elements as well as the overall harmonic aesthetic of the space. Inside the church we will look at several early Renaissance masterpieces made for the Medici family, including sculptures by Donatello and Verrocchio, and paintings by Fra Filippo Lippi.
