For generations of residents and visitors,  the Institute’s glorious 16th-century palazzo on the banks of the Arno has been a home from home. Channelling directly the traditions of the Grand Tour and the English Colony at Florence, our beautiful heritage Library buzzes with stimulating and entertaining courses, events and activities. It is the perfect place to get the inside track on Florence and meet interesting people.

The Institute is an independent non-profit, which receives no public funding whatsoever.  Though we run a very tight ship, it is unfortunately not possible to cover all costs from sales income. So we need the continued support of our friends and patrons to secure our future now and for generations to come. 

Each year we need to raise €150,000 to maintain our library and the educational, cultural and social programmes that we offer.

In addition we have built an important social outreach programme in Florence, our home. Advantage al British offers disadvantaged young people the life changing opportunity to learn English properly and so secure good jobs in the city’s tourism, hospitality and fashion industries. The sustainability and continued growth of the Advantage Programme is wholly reliant on donations. Target: €50,000 + each year.

The British Institute of Florence is a charity registered in England.  It operates exclusively in Florence, and is not part of a larger organisation.
