Piazza San Giovanni / Piazza del Duomo
This visit will immerse participants in the spiritual and artistic heart of Florence, exploring Piazza San Giovanni, home to the Baptistery of San Giovanni (possibly 4th or 5th century, exterior marble cladding 11th-12th centuries) with its famous bronze doors (South Doors by Andrea Pisano, 1330-1336; North and East Doors by Lorenzo Ghiberti, 1403-1424 and 1425-1452 respectively), and the grand Piazza del Duomo, dominated by the Florence Cathedral (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, begun 1296 by Arnolfo di Cambio, dome by Filippo Brunelleschi, 1420-1436), Giotto's Bell Tower (begun 1334), and Brunelleschi's iconic dome.
