Translation as ethical hospitality
In addition to intellectual, theoretical and practical conundrums, translation poses a clear-cut ethical problem. Translation has great creative potential and instead of being a means for negating and distorting difference, it can become a place where to welcome the Foreign as Foreign. Franca Cavagnoli has published acclaimed translations of, among others, works by Toni Morrison, Nadine Gordimer, F. Scott Fitzgerald, V.S. Naipaul and J.M. Coetzee.
