The Acton-Mitchell Family at Villa La Pietra: Writing, Collecting, and Gardening

Virtual Wednesday Lecture, on Zoom

by Larry Wolff and colleagues

Villa La Pietra, the fabulous villa in the hills overlooking Florence was owned by the Capponi family for three hundred years until it was inhabited by Arthur Acton and his American wife Hortense Mitchell in 1903.  Since then it has developed as an important centre for Anglo-American-Florentine intellectual life, art collecting, and horticultural design.  The team from New York University, which established its Florence programme in the Villa 20 years ago, tell us the story of this special place.

The lecture is presented by:

Larry Wolff and Perri Klass, Co-Directors, NYU Florence at Villa La Pietra

Francesca Baldry, Collection Manager, Villa La Pietra

Nicholas Dakin-Elliot, Horticultural Associate, Villa La Pietra
