Super Tuscans 2 (1325-1400)

Hours: 10:00 / 15:00 / 18:00 CEST

Our consideration of 14th-century masters continues through this second week-long seminar. As Giotto di Bondone transformed the language of painting in Florence and throughout Italy, his contemporaries in the surrounding Tuscan city-states also contributed revolutionary works to the didactic and decorative programmes of Tuscany’s cathedrals, mendicant basilicas and government palaces. Join the History of Art teaching team as we explore the rise of the Sienese school with particular focus on the paintings of Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti (1280-1348/1290-1348), Simone Martini (1284-1334), Lippo Memmi (1291-1356), Bartolo di Fredi (1330-1410) as well as the artists of the post-black death generation active elsewhere in Tuscany including Niccolò di Buonaccorso (1350-1390), Spinello Aretino (1350-1410) and Francesco di Neri da Volterra.
