Meet the Author - Tishani Doshi

A God at the Door and Small Days and Nights

We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Tishani Doshi to the British Institute at the end of June. Tishani is an international literary sensation, based in a fishing village near her home town of Madras but frequently visiting Italy.  She is a prize-winning poet of the first rank and also the writer of very fine novels. For the Meet the Author event in the Library (and on Zoom), we will discuss her recent collection of poems A God at the Door and her latest novel Small Days and Nights.

Tishani is also a fine contemporary dance performer.  She has agreed to perform the powerful dance that accompanies her seminal poem Girls are Coming Out of the Woods as part of her evening with us – it's sensational!  Sneak preview here!

"The poems in A God at the Door operate on the grand scale; reaching for visionary responses... stunning and ambitious." - The Guardian

“Small Days and Nights is as much about national as it is about familial belonging, this is a beautiful and angry book that challenges assumptions about what it means to be a woman, part of a family and part of a nation."  - The Times Literary Supplement

Here is Tishani reciting a poem from A God at the Door

And here’s a video of Tishani talking about Small Days and Nights

Both books are in stock at Paperback Exchange, where British Institute members can buy them with a 10% discount – so grab your copies and start reading!
