Many of their greatest works in Renaissance sculpture were done in bronze. Masterpieces like the doors of Ghiberti, Donatello's David, Verrocchio's Christ and Saint Thomas and even Cellini's Perseus were created using the centuries-old process of lost-wax bronze casting. These masterpieces were the product of a combined effort of many specialized craftsmen working along with the master. This talk will reveal the hidden secrets of bronze casting in the Renaissance through a comparison and exploration of the execution of a modern bronze commission of three life-size bronze figures for the centre of Florence.
