ART STORIES SERIES - Urban safari: Lions, Giraffes, Monkeys and a Hippo in Renaissance Florence

by Jeremy Boudreau

Join Head of History of Art Jeremy Boudreau for the fourth installment of our Tuesday evening Art Stories fortnightly series, as we explore the menagerie of exotic fauna present in local art, folklore and history, from the emblems of Florence’s government and districts, to the frescoes of its Renaissance palaces and chapels, onward still to the diplomatic gifts received and preserved by the city’s Medici princes. As we shall see through illustrated survey, Africa abounds in some rather unexpected corners of Florentine art and culture!

The lecture will be followed by wine and snacks.
