MODERN FLORENCE

07 JUN - 02 JUL 2021 / 15:00-16:30 CET

CORE PROGRAMMES

Our Modern Florence course examines the fascinating, lesser-known currents of Florentine art after the Renaissance. Through the patronage of later Medici and Lorraine Grand Dukes, Florence became a highlight of the Grand Tour, and home to a dazzling array of foreign aesthetes, bohemians and aristocrats, paving the way for Florence’s brief elevation to capital of the newly unified Kingdom of Italy. Despite the devastating 20th-century events of war and flood, Florence preserved a dynamic cultural and social milieu for artists and visitors, rising once again to become the global destination we know today.
