Lecture in English by Julia Grigg and Giuliana Ericani

Julia Grigg’s novel The Eyes that Look (Universe, London 2018) is a story of art and adventure about an extraordinary painting with an unexplained past. Set in 1560s Italy, the novel celebrates the lives of the Bassano dynasty of artists whilst unravelling the mystery lying behind the creation of Jacopo Bassano’s Two Hunting Dogs portrait of 1548. This painting was the first canine portrait in the history of Western art; the novel seeks an answer to why this ground-breaking work was made at that time. Julia Grigg is accompanied by the art historian, museologist and Bassano expert Dr Giuliana Ericani.
