Giuliano da Sangallo was one of the foremost interpreters of the Italian Renaissance, and the founder of an extensive family atelier of architects, military engineers, and sculptors, widely involved in the most important artistic commissions of their days. A highly skilled draughtsman, an insatiable explorer of antiquity, and a great innovator in the art of building, it is to Giuliano that we owe some of the most important prototypes of the Western tradition: the centrally planned church of Santa Maria delle Carceri and the humanistic Villa of Poggio a Caiano have become synonymous with the very image of Renaissance architecture. Dario Donetti has a PhD from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.
