Quattro Corone Fiorentine

Zanobi da Strada between Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio

A lecture by Jason Houston

The famous "Tre Corone Fiorentine" (The Florentine Crowns) Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio are the undisputed champions of pre-Renaissance Florentine literary excellence. But, it turns out there was a   fourth member of the group: Zanobi da Strada. Never heard of him? You can blame two of the three other “Crowns”.  This lecture takes us back to the 14th century and looks at how friendship, patronage, and professional envy determined the fame, and obscurity, of this group. It was a real late mediaeval cat fight!
