Il British Institute of Florence, essendo un ente senza scopo di lucro, è diretto da un consiglio di amministratori che prestano il loro lavoro gratuitamente. I "Governors" (Governatori) si assumono la responsabilità del futuro dell'Istituto, ne scelgono le strategie e nominano il Direttore.
Questi sono i nomi dei nostri Governatori in carica al momento:
Christopher Prentice - Presidente
Christopher Prentice ha lavorato per 39 anni presso il Corpo Diplomatico del Regno Unito, prima di andare in pensione nel 2016. Il suo ultimo incarico è stato in qualità di Ambasciatore in Italia per cinque anni. È sposato con Nina dal 1978. La coppia ha quattro figli e un numero via via sempre più crescente di nipoti. Sono residenti nell'Oxfordshire, ma spesso vengono in Italia, in Val d'Aosta, dove Nina possiede una casa di famiglia.
Beatrice Bargagli Stoffi - Deputy Chair
Beatrice Bargagli Stoffi lavora per la Leeu Collection come Office Manager della Leeu Villa Querce. Precedentemente è stata nella direzione Ufficio del Sindaco - Relazioni Internazionali e Cerimoniale - del Comune di Firenze ed è stata a capo della Segreteria della Direzione dell’Agenzia per il Turismo di Firenze e capo Segreteria dell'Assessore alla Cultura e Turismo della Provincia di Firenze. Ha fondato l’Associazione Atelier degli Artigianelli, un'associazione culturale che organizza corsi di formazione nei mestieri dell'artigianato artistico tradizionale ed ha fondato ed è socio fondatore della Associazione Amici della Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze.
Tessa Capponi
Tessa is a historian, born and brought up in Florence. She moved to Poland in 1983 and lectured at the University of Warsaw until 2014. Author of books and articles on the history and culture of food. Since 2013 she is the president of the Fondazione per la Tutela del Territorio del Chianti Classico and since 2010 the president of the Centro Studi Famiglia Capponi.
Helen Farrell
Helen Farrell is editor-in-chief of The Florentine, a position she has held since 2013.
Shalina Ganatra
Shalina Ganatra is a digital strategy and transformation expert with over 25 years’ experience helping global businesses navigate ecommerce and customer-focused innovation. A frequent visitor to Italy, Shalina is deeply inspired by Florence’s rich heritage and history and is currently studying Italian to deepen her connection with the country’s language and culture.

Professor Robin Mason ORB
Professor Robin Mason has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (International) at the University of Birmingham since March 2016, leading the University’s global engagement as a member of its executive. Previously he held senior leadership roles at the University of Exeter and the University of Southampton. He is Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK, has held senior regulatory roles including at the Competition and Markets Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority, and was awarded Brazil’s Order of the Rio Branco for championing UK–Brazil academic co-operation.
James Stewart - Treasurer
James Stewart ha alle spalla una carriera lunga trent'anni presso Schroders, una società di investimenti con sede a Londra, sia come manager d’investimento sia come responsabile commerciale. La sua prima occupazione è stata, invece, nell'esercito britannico. È membro della CFA Society del Regno Unito e ha una laurea in geografia ottenuta presso la Durham University
Luke Syson
Luke Syson è il quattordicesimo Direttore del Fitzwilliam Museum. Dal 2012 al 2019, è stato Chairman of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts al Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York, dove ha sovrinteso la ristrutturazione delle British Galleries, un progetto da $22m, che sono state riaperte a Marzo 2020. Luke ha inoltre avuto incarichi come curatori al British Museum, al V&A e alla National Gallery - dove ha guidato con successo la campagna per l’acquisizione della Madonna dei Garofani di Raffaello e ha curato l’acclamata mostra Leonardo da Vinci - Painter at the Court of Milan nel 2011.
Mary Ellen Stumpf
Mary Ellen Stumpf has been a non-profit professional and consultant in management, planning, and fund development, including earned, contributed, and endowed revenue. She has served a wide range of organisations—cultural, academic, preservation, environmental, and human services—as well as philanthropic sources, corporate partners, and private foundations. She directed the National Campaign for Historic Jamestowne, the first English settlement in America, transforming the site into a world heritage destination and hosting the late Queen Elizabeth II for its 400th commemoration in 2007. She holds a master’s degree in Elizabethan Studies from the University of Toronto and a bachelor’s degree in Humanistic Studies and Literature from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame. She has served on the board and faculty of the University of Richmond’s Institute on Philanthropy and on various other boards.
Katherine Zock
Katherine Zock is an independent art advisor specialising in European sculpture and works of art from the Renaissance to the Baroque. Arriving to London from America over 30 years ago for a Masters degree in early Renaissance Art at The Courtauld, Katherine then worked as a researcher for the Daniel Katz Gallery before working independently. Beyond business and her family, Katherine is involved in various art-related charities and is the founding Vice President and Director of The Friends of the Bargello. Katherine also leads the Conservation Patron Council in London for Save Venice.

The Rt Hon Edward Llewellyn OBE - Honorary President
Edward Llewellyn (Lord Llewellyn of Steep) was appointed His Majesty's Ambassador to the Italian Republic and His Majesty's non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of San Marino in succession to Jill Morris CMG. Ambassador Lewellyn OBE took up his appointment in February 2022.

Brian Young
Brian Young graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a bachelor’s degree in Historical Studies. He subsequently gained a postgraduate qualification in teaching English as a foreign language and worked in several countries in Europe before starting his career with the British Council as an English teacher in Venezuela. He took on further teaching roles with the British Council in Portugal, Thailand and Colombia before studying further postgraduate qualifications in marketing and management. A subsequent move to Barcelona, Spain saw him take on a senior role at the
Young Learner teaching centre Spain before moving to Saudi Arabia, where he was Deputy Country Exams Manager based in Al Khobar. More recently he has completed postings as Country Director in Rwanda and Mexico before moving to his current role as Country Director Italy.

Michael Griffiths OBE
Prima di ritirarsi nel 2003, Michael Griffiths era Socio Amministratore in Italia di Towers Perrin (adesso Tower Watson), un’azienda internazionale di consulenza attuariale. Vive in Italia, a Firenze, dal 1978, ed è stato Presidente della Camera di Commercio Britannica per l’Italia dal 1993 al 1997.
