ART STORIES - TOSCANA… SARDA? Politics, Propaganda and Plebiscite in 19th-century Florence

di Jeremy Boudreau

In an age of fierce political polarity, populism and referenda, a 96% approval rating on any issue is difficult to imagine. But that’s exactly what happened in March 1860 when Tuscans headed to the ballots and voted to annex to the Kingdom of Sardinia. Join Head of History of Art Jeremy Boudreau as he considers the role of literature, painting and song in the galvanization of popular support for an independent and unified Italy in the turbulent final years of the Grand Ducal State.

The lecture will be followed by wine and snacks.
