ART STORIES SERIES - River Babies: Infant Navigators of the Historic Arno River Floods

by Jeremy Boudreau

Join the third installment of our Tuesday evening Art Stories fortnightly series, devoted to the bizarrely common and recurring accounts of babies in baskets floating beneath the bridges of Florence on the turbulent rushing waters of the River Arno’s historic floods. From medieval popular song to the records of our own British Institute Archive, this talk will trace these peculiar accounts so reminiscent of the narratives contained in the classical and biblical foundations of Western culture.

The lecture will be followed by wine and snacks.
