Jacopo da Pontormo toiled ten years frescoing the choir of San Lorenzo with images that both spoke to the interests of learned canons of the church and to the populace of Florence. Forgotten after their destruction in the 18th century, the frescoes have been viewed through the lens of Giorgio Vasari’s negative critique. This presentation restores them to their glory, significance and central place in the art and history of Florence.
