Music for the Eyes: part 2
The Food of Love
Tuesday 18th November 2025 at 18:00

Part two of this new seminar series explores how music becomes a visual metaphor for love - divine, romantic and erotic. Kate Bolton-Porciatti illuminates the symbolism of music and musical instruments in painting and sculpture, revealing how artists use musical themes to express lust and desire, harmony and spiritual union.
Featuring works from the Uffizi, Accademia and Palatine Galleries, as well as audio examples of the compositions and instruments they depict, this richly illustrated talk uncovers the sensual and sacred resonances of music in Florence’s greatest masterpieces.
