The Male Gaze: Exploring Homoeroticism in Renaissance Art
A lecture by Lawrence Gianangeli

Quattrocento Florence was widely recognized as a centre of sodomite activity, a practice among men that drew the scrutiny of both religious and civic authorities. At the same time, the period saw a growing fascination with the nude form and a renewed interest in mythological subjects. By examining artists such as Donatello, Luca Signorelli, and Michelangelo, this talk explores how the social climate surrounding male eroticism intersected with the creation of sensually charged imagery, both sacred and profane.
