The Art of Saying Thank You

A lecture by Duncan Geddes

Ex votos are tokens of thanks for divine intervention in ordinary peoples’ lives,

There are thousands in Italy, and over the past 500 years they provide a fascinating history of personal triumphs and disasters, tracking changes from rural to urban life and from religious to scientific medicine. They can be seen as photo-journalism before photography, except nobody dies; they continue to give thanks up to the present day. Duncan Geddes explores this overlooked treasure-trove of social history for our enlightenment and entertainment.
