Celebrating Florence Together on San Giovanni
Day of Giving 24 June 2026
On Wednesday 24 June, Florence celebrates San Giovanni, its Patron Saint. It is one of the city's most cherished traditions that brings Florentines and friends of Florence together in joyful holiday spirit.
As Florence celebrates its heritage, we invite you to help us preserve one of its cultural treasures: The British Institute of Florence. For over a century, the Institute has provided life-changing educational and cultural opportunities for thousands of people inspired by the beautiful historic city of Florence. In a city that sometimes feels overrun by short stay Instagram tourists, the Institute reinvents the tradition of the Grand Tour for the contemporary world through deep study of the history, art and life of Florence, together with authentic social connection. Our aim: Bridging Cultures to Transform Lives.
As a stand alone non-profit (in receipt of no public funding whatsoever), we rely on the generosity of our many friends and supporters to ensure that we can continue to share our unique insights and connectivity, now and into the future.
This year, our goal is to raise €30,000 in a single day to invest in innovative programming and help strengthen the Institute’s financial foundations, which have historically always been too fragile. Building on the generous Challenge Donation of €5,000 from one of our friends in America, we’re thrilled to have received many other donations from other friends and supporters round the world! Please join them by giving what you can to help us achieve the target - and contribute to a flourishing British Institute of Florence.
