Resurrection: the iconography of Easter

Lecture in English by Mark Roberts

After investigating the iconography of the two midwives at the Nativity, and of the Three Kings, Mark Roberts turns his attention to visual representations of the Resurrection and associated events, such as Noli me tangere or the Supper at Emmaus. Early Christian, Italian and Netherlandish paintings and sculptures are interrogated for the stories they tell; among the artists discussed are Giotto, Piero della Francesca, Mantegna and Donatello. Mark Roberts has worked at the Institute since 1977.
