The Art and Craft of the Medieval Book

A lecture by Patricia Silva

Scholar and book artist Patricia Silva surveys the world of Medieval book production. From lusciously decorated prayer books and Bibles, to the more utilitarian books of scholarly study, to daily records such as account books and books of remembrances, a richly illustrated presentation will explore the materials, techniques and curiosities of bookmaking in Europe during the middle ages .

Patricia Silva is a book artist, printmaker and educator who has lived and worked in Florence for the past 25 years. She runs a private studio making limited edition artist’s books, and teaches on various American study abroad programmes.
