A lecture by Alan Pascuzzi
While looking at the iconic statue of the David, did you ever wonder how Michelangelo carved it from the block of marble? The 17-foot-high David is a universal symbol of the Renaissance, but also an extraordinary feat of sculpting in marble. This talk will look closely at the often-overlooked sculpting techniques that Michelangelo used to carve the David. By exploring his use of drawings and models, his choice of tools, his unfinished works and his Neo-platonic approach to sculpting, Alan Pascuzzi will attempt to reconstruct, from start to finish, the execution of one of he most important sculptures of the Renaissance.
