Piece of Cake is a new exhibition of paintings and sculpture by emerging American artist Rachel Weinstock, exploring the material afterlife of celebration and bringing it into dialogue with Florence’s rich art-historical tradition.

Working across painting and epoxy resin sculpture, Weinstock turns cakes, ribbons, tablecloths, napkins and discarded party objects into carriers of memory. Drawing on the tradition of still life and vanitas painting, the exhibition explores pleasure, abundance, excess and our desire to preserve moments that are, by their nature, fleeting.
