What is happening in Italy and the wider world?

A couple of months ago the general election in Italy saw the far right Fratelli d’Italia party win the biggest share of the votes, allowing Giorgia Meloni to form a “centre-right” government, in alliance with Matteo Salvini’s La Lega and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia.  Meanwhile the world is in a state of “permacrisis” – climate change, the Ukraine war, cost of living and inflation, political radicalisation etc.   What is the political and economic outlook for Italy and the wider world as we head into winter (literally and metaphorically)?

Following on from their conversation before the election in September, John Hooper, Italy & Vatican Correspondent for The Economist, will again be interviewed by Morgan Fiumi on the political and economic outlook in Italy and beyond. 

John Hooper is an award winning writer and journalist whose experience of Italian politics stretches back more than 25 years.  As well as his writing for The Economist, he has recently contributed to The Wall Street Journal and previously worked for The Guardian and the BBC.  His book The Italians is an international  best seller.
