A Library of One’s Own: Reading Radical Renaissance Women
A lecture by Alexandra Lawrence

Though women were barred from formal education in the Renaissance we do have examples of women writers, rulers, and nuns who were in possession of books and even had small collections of their own. We will roam the libraries of Isabella d’Este, Lucrezia Borgia and others with an eye to how these precious books and manuscripts were procured and circulated. The lecture will also allow us to build a library of our own, filled with texts written by radical Renaissance women whose voices are so valuable to us today.
