Since 4 December 2018 applications for Italian Citizenship need to include an Italian language certificate to demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Italian language, to least at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.
The CILS is a certificate issued by the CILS Center of the Università per Stranieri di Siena recognized by the Italian State that measures the level of linguistic – communicative knowledge of the Italian.
The new CILS B1 Cittadinanza exam is a reduced version of the CILS B1 Standard exam. It consists of 4 papers instead of 5 – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The fee for the exam is 100 Euro. The British Institute is not a CILS Centre but we can help you with your enrolment on the exam with our partner CILS Centre.
