Film: The Pickwick Papers
"All real gentlemen are a little off".
'What can one reasonably expect of a movie of "Pickwick Papers" to be? A muster of personality sketches and humorous escapades? An amiable take-off on an era, done in a freely flowing style? That is the sum of the original. And that is what Mr Langley has contrived in a loose and farcical fashion within a limited motion-picture frame.' (New York Times). Dickens's (rather Boz's) sketches of Victorian gentlemen embarked on a mission to study human nature receives suitable comic/farcical treatment. 'As welcome as the sun in the morning and as British as a cup of tea" (The Daily Mirror).
