Nata dalla donazioni di privati e di varie istituzioni la Biblioteca ha accresciuto la sua raccolta fino all’attuale cifra di 50.000 volumi pubblicati tra il 16° e il 21° secolo. La collezione si arricchisce di circa 500 nuovi titoli ogni anno.
Le aree tematiche maggiormente rappresentate sono Storia dell'Arte, Letteratura, Lingua Inglese e Italiana, Storia, Viaggi, Grand Tour e Musica
La Biblioteca conserva anche una preziosa collezione di libri rari, incluse alcune prime edizioni firmate. I libri di questa sezione possono essere consultati solo in sede.
Grand Tour Digital Resource
Una preziosa fonte online di testi manoscritti, di opere illustrate e scritte ideata dalla Adam Matthew Digital. Il materiale proviene dalla Beinecke Library, dal Paul Mellon Centre, dalla Chaney Library, dalla British Library, dai nostri e altri archivi. Sono inclusi manoscritti di importanti personalità, rare e significative risorse scritte, materiale illustratato tra cui dipinti e disegni che riproducono l’Italia e il continente, e una versione consultabile del Dictionary of British and Irish Travellers in Italy, 1701-1800 di Ingamell. www.grandtour.amdigital.co.uk. Il database è consultabile solo dai soci della Biblioteca del British Institute e presso i locali della Biblioteca.

Il British Institute, come forse molti sapranno, non riceve alcun finanziamento dal governo britannico, ma siamo molto fortunati di poter contare sul generoso supporto che istituzioni e singoli individui offrono per il mantenimento della Biblioteca e dell’Archivio.
Spesso ci viene rivolta la domanda “Come posso aiutare la Biblioteca del British Institute?”. Un aiuto pratico sarebbe l’acquisto di un libro per il British Institute scelto tra la lista acclusa che vorremmo aggiungere alla collezione già esistente.
