Supporting the British Institute

In order to safeguard the heritage of our past while moving towards our centenary as a modern, progressive and expanding cultural and educational resource, we have launched an Annual Fund to help us build on the achievements of the past 90 years and move towards our centenary in 2017.

Contrary to public perception, the British Institute receives no funding from the UK Government.

We have been very fortunate to be able to count on the generous support of donors both institutional and individual for the maintenance of the Library and Archives and for our cultural programme.

Some of the improvements that we have been able to make in recent years as a result of the contributions received have been the installation of air conditioning in the Library, the replacement of the Library floor, a new audiovisual and lighting system and new windows and curtains.

If you would like to target your support you can choose between the following funds:

  • The Library and Archive Fund
to enable us to extend our library collection, improve library facilities, restore books, scan rare and fragile material for use in digital format and maintain the archive.
  • The IT and Building Fund
to improve IT facilities for students and library users and to help maintain the historic Palazzo Lanfredini which houses the Library and Archive.
  • The Cultural Fund
to ensure that we are able to maintain the quality of our cultural programme and extend the range of our cultural activities.
  • The Discretionary Fund
this fund is operated at the discretion of our Governing Body to provide support for specific initiatives or unforeseen needs.
  • Legacies in favour of the British Institute of Florence

Non UK taxpayers can still donate using the donation form.
