Olympic games opening ceremony
Visitors to the Ferragamo room on Friday 27th July would have found the library reading room transformed with festoons of Olympic coloured balloons and paper chains in preparation for the screening of the Olympic opening ceremony live from London.
As a warm up to the ceremony, the fifty or so guests from all nations formed themselves into teams around the tables decorated with world flags to battle it out in an Olympic and Paralympic themed quiz for the top prize of London 2012 t-shirts. Pizza and drinks accompanied the varied rounds of ever increasingly difficult questions, until finally the hour arrived and the spectacular ceremony began. (Congratulations to the quiz winners 'Brazil', a team made up predominantly of Britons.)
The atmosphere in the library was exceptional, and watching the ceremony on the big screen with surround sound made for truly incredible viewing.
Let's hope the British athletes can match the success of the opening ceremony!
