200th anniversary of Charles Dickens's birth today!
Charles Dickens, born 200 years ago today, was always a friend to children. Janet Ross, who became a writer herself and whose archive is kept at the British Institute, wrote in her memoirs, "I painfully taught myself to read, much encouraged by Charles Dickens, who gave me what he called one of the most delightful of books, the Seven Champions of Christendom."
