New Blue Guide launched

To launch 10th edition of the Blue Guide Florence, the British Institute held a presentation in the Harold Acton Library. In addition to the author Alta Macadam and the editor Annabel Barber, three panel speakers were invited.

James Bradburne, Director of Palazzo Strozzi Foundation, talked about different kinds of travel information - from literature to Google. Graham Avery, Honorary Director-general of the European Commission, praised the author Alta Macadam with his own as well as Wikipedia's words, stating that her Italy titles are among the best selling Blue Guides in the world. The third speaker of the evening, Stuart Woolf, professor Emeritus at Ca' Foscari, informed the audience that the first travel books were published in the mid 19th century.

Blue Guide editor Annabel Barber emphasised the importance of accuracy in travel books and announced that the upcoming project will be launching the Blue Guides as E-books. The author herself, Alta Macadam, received the most applause of the evening.

A mixture of English and Italian was heard during the aperitivo that followed, as the participants inaugurated the 10th edition of the Blue Guide Florence with a Prosecco Toast.
