Film: IL FEDERALE
Luciano Salce's film proves that the shadow of Fascism still lay twenty years later over popular entertainment. That a story of the friendship between an ambitious fascist enthusiast and an anti-fascist Professor could still find an audience and inhabit the world of comedy in the 1960s is intriguing. Ugo Tognazzi gives an immaculate comic performance amidst the absurdity of the situation, but the darker side of war is never allowed to fade. ‘With this story involving dramatic memories of war - in the manner of Fascist vs Partisan cinema - [Tognazzi]... gives us a first taste of his masterly and ironic persona, able to express a certain type of vulgarity. It's a grotesque road movie... Maurizio Porro, Corriere della Sera.
