Declaration of Authenticity
Whether you are British or Italian, British educational qualifications are not automatically recognised in Italy unless they fall into certain professional categories agreed within the EU.
The procedure to obtain recognition of your qualifications is divided into three different steps. We can only assist you with Step 1.
Alternatively those who are based in UK can contact a British Notary Public/ Solicitor for a certified copy of the original certificate/degree.
Step 1 - Declaration of authenticity of a copy of a certificate/degree
You will need to send us a scanned copy or a photocopy of your degree together with copies of the documents requested on Form A. We will then check the authenticity of the document with the institution concerned and make a declaration of authenticity on the copy which we will then return to you.

If you need authentication of GCSE (O level) or A level results, you need to contact the examination board directly and ask them to send confirmation of your results to the British Institute of Florence. Please request the application form of the relevant examination board (AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR, SQA, WJEC) from us.
Step 2 - Legalisation - Apostille
This is issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London
Legalisation is the official confirmation by the FCO of the lawfulness of the signature on the authentication. Once the document has been authenticated, you will need to personally send it to the FCO Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes. Step 3 - Declaration of equal value
This is issued be the Consulate nearest to the place where you have studied. Please see Italian Consulate website for information on what is required.

Certification of a copy of an original document
This service is also offered by The British Institute of Florence. It is not part of the procedure for the recognition in Italy of UK education qualifications. You will need to produce the original document to us. We will take a photocopy and certify that it is a true copy of the original and return both the original and the certified copy to you. We do not carry out any checks on the authenticity of the document and do not give any statement of authenticity when we certify an original document so please check that certification is all you require before making the request to us.
