The Renaissance Series: month-long courses
The Dawn of the Renaissance
The Dawn of the Renaissance explores the revolutionary art produced in Florence and Tuscany during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, focusing on the work of Cimabue, Giotto, Duccio and Simone Martini. Several classes are held onsite in museums, galleries and churches to see artworks at first-hand. You will also learn about Medieval painting techniques and materials, the building of the great cathedrals, the influence of the Franciscans and Dominicans, the effects of the Black Death and the role of great writers such as Dante. It is possible to combine this programme with Italian language and/or Life Drawing.
Note that, depending on museum opening times, occasional site visits may be scheduled in the morning including Saturday.
Please note that classes will not be held on the following national holidays and hours for that week will be reduced accordingly:
